On Etsy there is this wonderful thread in the forum entitled "Metal Clay Artists & Aspiring Metal Clay Artists." While I haven't been able to pop in as much as I would like I always try and participate in the challenges. I am working on a systems conversion during the day so for the past two challenges I have been late. Despite that I always try to create something in response to the challenge. This last challenge was selected by Liz Hall winner of the bracelet challenge. Our challenge was to create something with a found object. To give you a hint, I have posted the inspiration for my creation above. I just finished placing my pendant in the kiln and will have more to share with you within the next day or two.

I am very excited to share the joy today! As some of you may know, I am part of the Etsy Metal Clay Team with a fabulous group of ladies. This month 22 of us have taken part in the Etsy Metal Clay Team Charm Swap. We all create an extra 2 charms, which will be later used as a charity bracelet.

These charms above are the ones I created for the Swap. During our first swap I was getting ready to go to the Philadelphia Buyer's Market of American Craft and I ran out of time and wasn't able to add a little pop of color to my charms. So when the second charm swap was announced I already knew the design of my charm. I started making the first batch with a smooth background, but to change it up a bit, I decided to create a batch with double sided texture. As a surprise to my lovely teammates, I made them in two colors.

Introducing New Copper Clay Jewelry

This weekend I have introduced a few new copper creations to my Etsy Shop with much more to come once I have finished playing with resin tonight.

All of these have been handcrafted with Art Clay Copper. After having read many blogs in search of a good firing schedule I chose one tested by the lovely Pam East. One of the benefits of Art Clay Copper is that you can fire your pieces on an open shelf, but after pouring my heart and soul into all of these little flowers I decided to use my firing pan.

I placed 4 shelf supports in my kiln and then placed my pan ontop of the supports. Each piece was placed inside my firing pan standing upright and fired at 1780 degrees with a holding time of 3 hours.

I was thrilled with my results and plan to try this schedule again.

Good Evening! I hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful Saturday. Earlier today I went to the Gem and Lapidary Show with my hubby. I was able to lure him in with the promise of a yummy lunch at the new Barbeque Pit in the center of Windsor.

At the show I purchased some really stunning druzy that I am looking forward to setting in metal clay. I also found some stunning pearls in summer colors. I see rings and necklaces in my near future. Work is really busy at this moment, but I hope to have some beauties to show you in April.

In the meantime, I have listed these new earrings in my Etsy store. More to come as time permits for picture taking.

A Great Start to December....

With my last show of the season now behind me, I can start to catch up on all of the things that have been temporarily neglected like my blog and twitter. December is off to a wonderful start with a feature on the front page of Etsy: A great big hug and thank you to Sugarraindrops on Etsy for the feature!

Yesterdsay I worked on Christmas orders and also spent a little time creating a few new designs. Within the next week I will have a few more items combining metal clay and resin. Have I mentioned how much fun I am having playing with both?

Today was another big day for my Forbidden Fruit Necklace. When I went out on my lunch break this afternoon I read the good news on my i-phone that my necklace had sold. As is usual, after I have greeted my hubby and my beloved Emma I jumped on the computer to see a ton of new hearts and views.

At first I thought I was featured on the front page, but a quick check of my trusty treasury hunter yielded no results so I quickly checked http://www.craftcult.com/ and saw the good news. You Don't Know What You Have Til' its Gone....

The phrase you don't know what you have until is gone rings so true to me today. I had been without the internet since Monday afternoon. While I do have my trusty i-phone - my computer definitely has its advantages with the big screen.

My area experienced a power outage and after the power outage my modem failed to work. Comcast came to my house today and while they fixed my modem they encountered bees made the pole their residence. Luckily, the gentleman came back in the evening and now I am live again!

Citrus Fine Silver Boro Bracelet

It is not every day that you make a bracelet and sell it the next day. I created this yesterday afternoon in preparation for upcoming show this week in Marlborough, but as of 6:00p.m. today it looks like this precious bracelet will not be taking the ride up to Marlborough with me.

I couldn't be happier as I know that my customer will treasure this bracelet for years to come. It features stunning artisan boro beads in breathtaking citrus colors, all fine silver (including Karen Hill Tribe silver) along with bali sterling silver accents and vessonite gemstones.

I am thrilled that I thought to photograph this bracelet yesterday before it left my home. :)

Destiny's Creations - Now on Trunkt!!

I am thrilled to announce that I have been accepted into Trunkt. Trunkt is a curated wholesale directory featuring giftware products created by amazing artisans from around the world. Trunkt supports independent artists and designers by giving them a portfolio space to present their work. I am now one of those artists!

I actually applied to Trunkt a couple of times and had not been accepted. This inspired me to work on my store and photos even more. In retrospect, I am thankful to Trunkt for not accepting my first application as it inspired me to work even harder to make improvements on my photography. In addition, as you all know I recently gave my web presence a face lift.

As such, on a whim I sent in my application not expecting anything. An hour later I received notification that my portfolio was live. I almost fell over. It was 3:00a.m. when I saw my acceptance and my husband was sleeping. So in shock I went to the Etsy forums to see if Trunkt was still jurying and found out that indeed they were. I was thrilled and filled with excitement. Thank you trunkt!!

My Custom Order Continues

Although I worked late at the office today I managed to take a small cat nap to wake up and complete my custom order. I brought all of my supplies for this project to the living room and created this bracelet while Rescue Me played in the background.

I shall digress for a moment and say if you haven't seen Rescue Me, I can't speak enough about the writing on this show. Every single show there is a scene that just gives you a good hearty laugh amidst a serious topic. However, after the episode ends you sit back and wonder what the creative writers are thinking when they come up with this stuff. They are genius. It airs Tuesday nights at 10:00p.m. on FX.

Now back to my bracelet. I knew that when I purchased these gems at the gem show whatever I created with them would be special. I will have to email my favorite gem dealer and let him know I want to see more stones that are fire treated in the fall. All I have left for fire treated gemstones at the moment are fire treated citrine and fire treated amethyst, which should also be fun to design with. With the long weekend ahead I hope to really dedicate the majority of it to creating new designs before the craziness of back to back shows begins.

Sunday's Afternoon Project

Just a little preview of what I am working on today. I am preparing this custom order necklace for one of my customer's from my home show last week. There were a few strands from my last visit to a gemstone, that I just did not have to time to do anything with. As such, what I did is I set a custom order table of gems where my customers could see what I had and if they found something they liked I could work with them on a custom order. As you can see that was a very good idea.

My customer has so much style and grace and I am so happy that these beauties are going to her. They were my favorite purchase at the Gem Show.

Since the news broke, I have been feeling really old. Memories play back of growing up in what my friends called the doll house (we lived in a cape back then). Saturday morning while my parents cleaned the house in between listening to Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, and el Gran Combo I would go to my dad and ask him to play The Thriller LP. Although I didn't know what much of the song meant, I knew I liked the beat and would dance around my house in my pj's. Oh the good ole days! I was six years old when this song came out and to date it remains one of my favorite Michael Jackson songs.

The Enigma of SEO's

If you tread into the forums on both Etsy and Artfire, you can't help to be bombarded with the words SEO's. For those that don't know what SEO stands for it is Search Engine Optimization. I have been avoiding this three letter word as those of you that have been following me I have had one busy schedule with shows. But with a one week break ahead of me, I thought it was time to try and find out as much information as possible with regard to this scary three letter word. I will preface this with my search is not yet complete. I couldn't possibly tackle it completely in one day.

While this isn't the only source for SEO information, it worked as a good starting point for me. With great angst, I had to set aside my creative names for my pieces and replace them with names that hopefully will be more in compliance with SEO. I am going to check my google analytics in a few days and see the difference. As of today my total view count since Etsy's SEO change had me at an increase of 4.60%. I will let everyone know what tales the next few days tell.

Tomorrow I am going to tackle the names in Artfire store, which is down 21.81% in views and then finally my website, which is doing good.

My Blog Gets a Face Lift

As I am not at work today, I am taking the time to do a little on-line "housecleaning." The first being unveiling my new blog banner. For those who had seen my blog banner before, it was basically my Etsy banner uploaded into blogspot. However as part of my on-line facelift, the uber talented Renee of http://www.thompsondesigns.etsy.com/ created a customized banner for me.

I photograph most of my pictures on a dark background so it's nice to see bright cheery colors on my banner. Today will be dedicated to photographing and adding new work. With such a busy show schedule, I have had no time to photograph.

All of these are the photos and listings I have created already on both Etsy and Artfire so far. I will be photographing some pocket friendly copper discs I have enameled. What are you up to today?

Destiny's Creations New Look on Etsy and Artfire

As this weekend rolls to an end, I am thrilled to announce my new look on both Etsy and Artfire.

ThompsonDesigns on Etsy (www.thompsondesigns.etsy.com) created my new look and I couldn't be happier. I wanted to incorporate two lovey dovey Owls into my banner. I have always loved owls and having two kind of incorporate how the name Destiny's Creations came to be. Ever wonder what is behind the name?

Well, the name came together quite easily for me. You see when my hubby and I were dating he surprised me with a Build A Bear. We have always talked about having kids (You are supposed to talk about these things while early on just to make sure you are on the same page on key issues) and he knew that if I had a girl a top contender was the name Destiny. So he came home with the most cutest teddybear ever...she had on these pink jeans, a pink shirt, with faux adidas in white and pink, and heart shaped pink sunglasses. On the birth certificate he chose Destiny as her name.

While I was taught not to believe in Destiny per se, I think fate had a 5% chance in me and my hubby meeting. The rest was a mix of charm, personality, and being at the right place at the right time and with the right person. You see the summer I met my husband I was supposed to be backstage at Opera North as their make up artist while on break from college. However, my grandfather died early in the year and my family and I took a 3 week vacation to Puerto Rico. By the time I came back I had missed the deadline. At the time, I remember feeling a bit sad about this, but in retrospect I think the events in our lives, as well as, our actions determine the many stages of our lives. Had I gone to Opera North I may not have met my husband, I most definitely would not be at the job I am now nor would I probably be in the same state.

Alls well that ends well and now I have a husband I love (in thickness and thin), two of the most beautiful and supportive parents, a darling little furry friend by the name of Emma, a great job with a boss I admire (and no this isn't for brownie points - I am sure by the time he gets home the last thing he wants to do is read blogs), and last but not least Destiny's Creations, where I get to see all of my creations to fruition and all of the joy that it brings me. A little girl named Destiny is yet in the making, but all the stages of my life have yet to be reached. For now she shares my store name.

It has been almost a month since I last blogged! Life has seemed to zoom into fast forward and the luxury of writing about anything has gone to the wayside. The next three months will be extremely busy for me as I prepare for back to back shows. I only have 3 free weekends and one is NOT my birthday weekend.

However, economic times hit me just as it has the rest of the world and my husband was not working for over a year. So in my hope to compensate I booked shows just about every weekend in the summer. I am happy to say he is back at work, but I still have my commitments. Not only that, but I am truly blessed with a wonderful husband who goes to each and every show with me, sets up my tent and shelves and stays with me throughout the day to help. He doesn't necessarily go beyond a hello, but that's okay as I think I do enough talking for the both of us!

This weekend I am doing a private home show, which is very exciting for me. It's nice to do an intimate event and be the star of the show! I have come up with a few fun games for my guests and some creative ways for them to save. For example, if a guest brings 2 friends with them, the three of them will all get 10% off their total order.

With a year and a half of doing craft shows under my belt, I have steadily kept working on my booth. I am now happy to say that I have a banner. The banner pictured was designed by www.vinylonthego.etsy.com (thank you Esther!! I love my banner)! She was truly amazing and literally nailed what I wanted by my description to her immediately. She worked on my banner expeditiously although I had only purchased it a few days before my show. Talk about customer service!

I will let you in on a little secret and let you know that I will soon be using that banner throughout all of my stores online. I have talked alot about a blog redesign and that is coming soon. I just saw the final preview for my Etsy and Artfire banner and it looks amazing! The very talented ThompsonDesigns on Etsy has taken that project and is swinging full fledged ahead.

New Dichroic Glass Pendants Coming Soon....

It amazes me to think that I haven't worked on creating any new glass pendants since last year! My focus has been almost entirely on my metal clay work since my certification. I have made some new wire wrapped pieces, but it wasn't until my show in Milford that I realized how low I had gotten in my dichroic glass inventory. So I took this beautiful holiday weekend and focused on glass. The kiln went on early this evening and I can't wait for tomorrow to see how they look.

The next two weekends my focus has to be on creating for Celebrate West Hartford, but I hope to add at least 4 of these onto my website if I can get some winning photos. I find that dichroic glass pendants and necklaces are the hardest for me to photograph. I hope to master this by the end of the year!

In the meantime, I wanted to share with you the work of one of my twitter friends. Aside from blogging on my musings, I love blogging about new soap artisans I have tried. Give Me the Green Light

While the hubby goes deep sea fishing on Mijoy in Waterford, Connecticut, I took the time to photograph and work on some listings. Unintentionally, it appears that I have focused on working with green. Of course this is only 3 items out of the many that I have created as I prepare for my Celebrate West Hartford show in just 3 weeks, but it appears subconsciously I have been given the green light.

The first earrings (Shade Earrings) feature my first designs with glass enamel. I took the class last Saturday and can' wait to get to the studio to use the enameling kiln again! Enameling is something I have been wanting to try for quite some time, but haven't had the time for until now. I made a few things with swirls, fishies, dragonflies, and a crown, but I still have some finishing work on these pieces so stay tuned.

The Emerald City Bracelet and Earrings feature chrome diopside gemstones a great little find I purchased at a bead swap last Saturday in the early hours of the morning prior to my class. All the ladies brought their goodies and there was also a wholesale vendor who brought in all sorts of gemstones. I fell inlove with the unique barrel shape and as you can see wasted no time in designing with them.

From the ladies I swapped my copper and beads I have already designed with for watch faces, these stunning starfish swarovski crystals that have an amazing aurora borealis to them, and a couple other goodies. I have already made a watch and a pair of earrings with my trades.

This weekend I spent all of Saturday and Sunday creating pieces for my Celebrate West Hartford Show on June 13th and 14th in West Hartford, Connecticut. With a very busy summer/fall show schedule I have to be a very busy bee on the weekends.

This bracelet is the first in a series of "bugsy bracelets," each of which will have their own unique characteristic. It is a series, but they will be a one of a kind series.

I have a few more goodies to share throughout the week.

When I buy something part of the shopping experience for me, is the packaging. Of course you buy for content, but beautiful packaging also makes you feel special as though you have bought yourself a present (and anyone who knows me knows I love presents - it could be the simplest thing). It's the reason I go to Nordstrom for moisturizer versus going to Macy's. I love their shopping bags.

I have been wanting to photograph my packaging for some time, but had not yet had the chance. Yesterday, while working on a custom order for a wedding I took the time to photograph the packaging just before shipping my order.

It is my wish that when my customer's shop from me, they are pleased not only with my jewelry, but also the presentation.

I am just recuperating from a wonderful show this weekend, Meet the Artisans in Milford, CT directed by Denise Morris Curt. It was located on the Milford Town Green. (A fun little fact I learned is that Milford is host of the second largest green in Connecticut.)

This show is so wonderfully organized. Ms. Morris Curt herself is an artisan so she is very in tune to an artisan's needs and has been doing this for years. I could only be so lucky to have her directing more shows! I would apply to all of them. I am definitely applying to her shows in Mystic next year.

Although, the weather was forecasted earlier in the week to be rainy, the weather Gods held out for us and it actually turned out to be a beautiful weekend. While I didn't get to walk around the entire event as I had a booth to take care and a husband who surprisingly can be shy, I did get to admire some beautiful artwork and glass artisans when I went to go pick up my delicious falafel.

My customers were extremely gracious and many asked if it was my first year at the show, which it was. Many asked if I would be returning to the Milford Oyster Festival and while I did not apply this year, I did mention that I would be returning in September for the Meet the Artisan Show in September.

Saturday night I was able to enjoy a romantic dinner with my husband at the Stonebridge Restaurant. If you get the chance to go to Milford, it is definitely a must that you stop there. I thought the crab cakes from my wedding were the best I ever had, but the crab cakes at Stonebridge won the prize. I was also very pleased with my dinner, which was an entree of generous portions of lobster meat, jumbo shrimps, scallops covered by a most delightful stuffing.

Needless to say, I am quite excited to be returning to Denise's show in September! Her shows get an A++++ rating (now I would add more pluses, but you catch my drift) :)

As I settle in to my routine after a wonderful show, I just wanted to share my latest earrings on Etsy. Yesterday, I concentrated on adding a few pieces to my website, but tonite is Etsy night.

Fresh Country Air

It amazes me how we have managed to skip right over Spring and jump head first into Winter. After bribing my husband with breakfast at this cute little breakfast shop called Main Street on Route 159 in Agawam, I was able to convince him to take a nice scenic back roads ride with me to the Gem Show located at the Big E in Massachusetts.

I was like a kid in a Candy Shop, but I vowed to be good. I tried really hard to stick to a budget and limited myself to some really special treats. I went for fun summer colors and gemstones I had yet to see there at the show. Leslie followed me and was very patient as he priced everything for me while I made my final decisions.

I must have been at his booth for like an hour as my husband sat patiently by my dear friend Lis-el of Art & Soul Gallery. She was also there as a vendor as she is not only an artist, but also a distributor for Art Clay Silver.

So far I have created one pair of earrings since I arrived home, which I plan to take with me to my show tomorrow at my Jewelry Show for the Colchester Hayward Volunteer Ambulance. I plan to be there from 10:00a.m. - 3:00p.m. and am hoping to get one or two more pairs done before I have to start packing for tomorrow.

If I get a chance I will photograph my finds to share.

I am giving myself another hour and then it's time to pack up for the show! Hope everyone else was able to enjoy today and if you are in the Colchester area tomorrow, please stop on in and say hi!

As the Meet the Artisans Show in Milford, CT quickly approaches I have been busy working on a new line for Spring, which pairs vintage lucite beads and metal clay. These are the fourth in my series with a few more to come soon.

The charms have been oxidized and polished to a satin finish. They have been paired with a darling pair of matte golden poppy yellow vintage lucite flowers, which I have wire wrapped with sterling silver.

As I was wirewrapping these earrings, I was watching commercials for my favorite television show...."Survivor's Ready???" I still get excited each and every time Jeff Probst says those words.

I have placed these earrings on my Etsy website.

These .999 pure fine silver earrings are lovingly handcrafted with Art Clay Silver, which is an eco-friendly metal clay.

They earrings have been oxidized and polished to a satin finish and measure approximately 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in length from the top of the earring wires.The approximate size of the circle is 1 1/4" x 1 1/4 (3.2 cm x 3.2 cm).

These earrings have sleeping beauty turquoise gemstones, which have been beautifully wire wrapped to each hoop. I am definitely looking forward to my show tomorrow night!

It all went awry when I found out my husband was going to be working this weekend. That saying you never had until it's gone became very true for me as I was unloading my car with all of my acutriments. It was a first year craft show, but I only did it because a fellow crafter called me and spoken volumes about what a good show it was supposed to be and how all of the other crafters I had met from my show in Enfield would be there. Although my hubby asked me not to go I always honor my commitments and just could not see myself being any different with this show.

So off I went. Luckily he had packed the car for me the night before. I arrived at the Craft Show and quite literally if there were more than 30 people that walked through that were non-crafters that was alot. The only good thing was that I found a Tastefully Simple representative and bought some goodies for her and found these beautiful scarves (one of which I am wearing in the picture).

Did I mention that the same person that recommended it to me did not show up with her crafts???

My dad did come and save me so that I would have to carry anything thankfully! It has been quite an interesting year of me making my rounds at the various Craft Shows, but along the way I have been taking notes of which ones I will do again and ones I will shy away from next year. Yesterday's was marked off of the list!

For the past several weeks I have been searching for a camera that would do justice to the lampwork beads I use in my designs and finally settled on on the Canon SX10 IS. I see such a difference in the capture of the actual bead. It was important for me to find a camera that would capture the depth of the beads I am using since I know how hard it is to purchase jewelry by pictures alone. I will share some more pictures as I photograph my new work. This was one of my first test shots with the camera as I learn my way around it. So far I must say I am quite pleased.

Windsor Lion's Arts & Crafts Show

I was at the Windsor Lion's Arts & Crafts Show earlier today and could not have asked for more beautiful weather. I heard many people saying it was the most beautiful weather ever for this show. After having been rained out at the last show, I just couldn't bare another weekend of rain!

With all of this talk of our economy I was bracing myself thinking that there would be a lack of customers and inevitably sales. However, to my surprise there were definitely those who were looking for unique handmade items and presents. I know personally I was very thankful for all of my customers. I met quite a few genuinely wonderful people. There are those that will go through your booth not wanting to make eye contact or engage in conversation yet it's always so nice when you get the opportunity to speak with others.

I already have the application for next years show and will return to Windsor again in the Spring.

Just a little something new tonite on my website. I have added a number of things, but wanted to blog about these beauties.

These earrings feature .999 pure fine silver half moon charms I lovingly handcrafted with Art Clay Silver. These charms have been oxidized for depth and contrast. As a finishing touch, I have applied a satin finish to them.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a product of my environment. My name is Audrey Hussey, and I am the maker of KaBoogie Shoes, up here in northeast CT. Recycled from garment weight suedes & leathers, because waste isn't something I can tolerate. My moccasin design is my favorite! I took the mass produced baby shoe idea, heightened the ankle and made it my own. I taught myself to sew, because I grew up watching my mom and dad make and do everything DIY. My dad came up in advertising, then owned a sign shop and a stained glass studio, and in his shop and studio I learned everything from graphics to painting to building to design. I went on to get my degree in graphic design and communications, and worked in advertising for 12 years. He taught me there's no limit to what you can do given the tools, so naturally, I can be found doing anything from designing furniture, making paper, painting signs or sewing curtains. Fifteen years ago I was building toddler furniture and frames for consignment.

2. Apart from creating things what do you do?

First, I am my kid's mom, and hubby's wife. I homeschool 4 of my 6 little redheads. What a sight we make! I am a voracious gardener, love to find free stuff or bargains, and am active in my church and homeschool group. I am involved in my town's food pantry also, and am a political junkie! I read voraciously, usually have 4 or 5 books going at once. Right now I'm devouring Cecelia Holland's books and a history of WW2. Homeschooling forces you to get a whole new education!

3. What led you to your art?

It was an evolution, really. My mom sewed and knitted clothes for me and my siblings, and when I had kids I just picked it up. Had already been there & done that which we are inundated with on all of the DIY shows. By the time I had my 6th, I was so sick of hand-me-down shoes on my kids I ripped apart an old pair a friend gave me, cut up hubby's old bomber jacket, and KaBoogie Shoes was born! The diaper covers came from a desire to get away from the old plastic pants I had always used from 14 years ago. I just LOVE felted wool!

4. What is the best advice you can give to someone just starting out selling their work?

Don't follow fads. Make your own. It's so hard, trends are great to be in on when they're hot, but it's so satisfying to think outside the box and have it work. I'm always struggling with it. Also, you have to put the time in and not be afraid to reach out, do something different, put yourself out there! Even getting on TV isn't a guarantee of success, as I've found! I'm still not where I want to be, but it's my own fear holding me back, as I'm sure many others would say. Trust me, I come from a long line of entrepreneurs!

I had promised to post new items today and I almost didn't make my promise. Although, our local weatherman forecasted a sunny day it was a rainy one for most of the day. So after several months of photographing all of my work outdoors it was time to move the studio indoors. I would appreciate any feedback....I felt like such a newbie since what applies to outdoor photography goes out the window when you photograph indoors!

Another interview to share with the very talented Jan of Expressive Papers. I think her cards are the cutest. (I mean look at the card above - what a great card to give to a dog lover!) I had the pleasure of speaking with her about her work and want to share my interview with her with you all.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work.

First of all, let me thank YOU, Janice for kindly featuring my on your blog!

My name is Jan, and although not an artist by trade, I have been a craftsperson as long as I can remember. Growing up in Kansas, I learned how to sew in my local 4-H Club, and made many of my own clothes in my teen years and early twenties. Since then, I've tried out many crafts (most of them self-taught), including embroidery, tole painting (THAT didn't last long!), beadwork,
knitting, macrame, crocheting (I was an abysmal failure at that!) and counted cross stitch.

I'm also a lover of music and took piano lesson for many years. I enjoyed singing in several groups during high school and college, and taught myself how to play the guitar during the years that I was without a piano.

In my youth, my practical nature led me to pursue a nursing career, knowing that it would be more likely to meet my needs for financial independence than trying to support myself through my love of music, arts and crafts.

Now, thirty seven years later (I can hardly believe all that time has gone by!), after retiring from my day job (yes, I did become a nurse), my heart has led me once again back to my love of arts and crafts.

2. How did you get started making cards?

Six years ago, I left my long-time nursing position. Soon after that, one of my friends introduced me to scrapbookingâ€¦.and I loved it! After a short while of doing scrapbooking, my interest and skills began to evolve to include the art of paper piecing and cardmaking. The REST, as they say, is history!

I've always loved giving and receiving cards, so creating handmade cards has seemed like a natural progression for me.

3. What inspires your work?

I get the inspiration for my cards and paper piecings from just about anything....beautiful scrapbook papers and embellishments, songs, movies, poems, quotes and sayings, nature, life events, my family, my friends, and my dogs!

I'm constantly cutting out pictures from catalogues, advertisements, brochures, etc., to use as inspiration for my cards and paper piecings. And I'm ever-watchful for fun or inspirational quotes and sayings to incorporate into my cards and scrapbook layouts. I love the sense of creativity and satisfaction that I get from making cards and scrapbook layouts/paper piecing sets and I love that other people enjoy my creations!

4. What are your top fashion & beauty must haves?

I guess my taste in clothes has always been for the timeless and classic look. I'm an avid SALE shopper, and I'm so proud of myself when I'm able to find great quality clothes for a good price!

But now that I no longer work outside the home, I'm more than content to LIVE in a good pair of jeans and short sleeve sport shirts in the summer and turtlenecks in the winter. I do most of my clothes shopping now via catalogues and the Internet. I shop LL Bean, Land's End, and I LOVE Coldwater Creek!

5. Where can we find your work?

I still do offer my scrapbook layouts and paper piecing sets and (occasionally) handmade cards and on eBay. You can search for any current listings by my eBay ID, which is "expressivepapers".

Today's post is kind of a quickie as I am getting ready for the Wethersfield Cornfest on Saturday. Every night I come home I am either pricing or creating as I like to keep my merchandise for each show fresh. I like to have new pieces for my customer's to view.

Progress of My Website.........

Today has been a busy day as I prepare for my upcoming show, as well as, the unveiling of my new website.

The weather in Connecticut today has been beautiful despite a very rainy Saturday! I finally selected, which mailing list provider I am going to use for my website and everything has been coded. I am excited and delighted to announce that my website is fully functional!

This afternoon I spent taking photographs of all of my new items for my store. What you see above is a preview of what you will find in my store.

24th Annual Wethersfield Cornfest

Today has been a rather productive day for me as I gear up for the 24th Annual Wethersfield Cornfest next Saturday, September 13th from 10:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. The Cornfest is being held in Old Wethersfield, CT on the famous Broad Street Green.

This will be my first time at this show so I am really excited to see what the crowd will be like as it is known to draw thousands of visitors each year. Old Wethersfield is such a beautiful historic town that it will be nice to be in such a quaint spot.

Wethersfield, founded in 1633-34, has its niche in history, being the oldest town in Connecticut. (Anyone who lives in Connecticut knows that this is a battle between Wethersfield and Windsor, which also proclaims the same - as I am from Windsor I have to side with my town on this one).

For a little historic trivia - in May 1781, at the Webb House on Main Street, Washington and Rochambeau planned the battle of Yorktown, which culminated in the independence of the then rebellious colonies.

Two Rivers Artisan Soaps

Today, I am taking a little bit of a break to talk about one of my favorite stores on Etsy....Two Rivers Soap. My love of handmade soap started about a year and a half ago on Ebay when I didn't even know Etsy existed. It was wintertime and my skin was feeling really dry and someone recommended that I try using handmade soap. Since then I haven't bought a single bar of commercial soap or shower gel, which I was addicted to.

I try and support not only local artists here in Connecticut, (I will tell you more about them som other day), but also my friends on Etsy. While I have tried many and there are several great soapmakers, there is something about Two Rivers Soap that I always make my way back to.

I have tried quite a few of her scents and highly recommend Love Charm (this quite possibly has to be one of the best soaps I have ever smelled & my hubby loves it when I use it too...bonus points). I am not a big fan of soaps that smell like food or patchouli...(she carries these also). My favorites tend to be fresh, clean scents or citrusy scents. Other favorites are Oceania (another one perfect for that special man in your life), Lemon Sugar, Energy, and Pink Lemonade.

Working on My Website

So, I finally took the plunge and did it!! I am in the process of creating my own website. It took me about two weeks to decide on which designer I was going to use for my site. The template is up but she is still working on my custom collage for my home page and now the trouble is deciding which pictures I am going to use! I have been going back and forth all night and have only selected one picture for you.

When I think of my work I think of the four categories of jewlery design that bring me joy:

1) Precious Metal Clay Work
2) Metal Work
3) Wire Wrapping
4) Creating Dichroic Glass
5) Making Russian Spiral Bracelets

So now the decision is how do I represent these 5 completely different bodies of work into one custom collage. I will keep you posted. I am hoping that I can decide this by the end of this week so that my collage can be up and running by the end of the week! If any of you have any nominations for which pictures I should use from my shop, I would love to hear your votes! Until then, have a beautiful night.

An Afternoon with Artgarden on Etsy...............

In my constant browsing, I was blown away by the beauty of ArtGarden's work. This piece really spoke to me, but I assure you that to choose one favorite to share with all of you was extremely arduous. I just love her color palettes and decided to email her to learn more about her creative process so that I could share it with all of you. Below is our interview. 1.)Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I live in Sonoma County California with my husband in a small town called Sebastopol. We just moved here from Maui about 3 months ago. We are still getting to know the place , it's a really big change. We also were in France and Italy for 2 months in between the move. I miss Maui everyday at this point , but we are finding some sweet places here too. I am pretty much always thinking about my creative ideas all day from the second I wake up in the morning until bed, so I'm very happy when I get to my creative time, and inspired by so many things. I'm always trying new methods and different mediums just to play and explore. It is my life pretty much, all this creative exploration and expression.

2.)Apart from creating things what do you do?
Aside from making art, I have been a massage therapist for 8 years, getting more into the Thai yoga massage and Shiatsu, taking lots of classes in Seattle and Maui.Other jobs I have done are landscaping and Organic farming, which I love so much, I love working with plants, they feed my soul more than just about anything I can think of.

I love to spend my time with my husband going hiking, exploring new places, gathering lots of creative ideas along the way, juggling, reading, and Salsa dancing or any kind of dancing. We have been doing Salsa dancing together for the last few years, not without a few bumps in the road, but it is so FUN . We just went out to a Contra Dance last night and had a blast.

3.)What first made you become an artist?
I first became an artist at probably age 4 or 5, when I started my love of drawing and coloring, like all the time. I spent a lot of my time as a child drawing and coloring, I remember watching my grandmother doodle and imitating her when I was really tiny. Maybe I got it from her.

In high school I got more serious about it, taking art classes, pottery, and jewelry. Finding that it was my nature to just be creative all the time, I have pursued many mediums in the love of color, texture and design. I've made and sold pottery, basketry, apprenticing with an AMAZING Stained Glass artist for 11 years, jewelry and art.

4.)What handmade possession do you most treasure?
My most treasured handmade possession would have to be our musical instruments, our handmade pottery we use for dishes, and my personal jewelry . Even though they are not hand made(by people anyway) but nature made, my MOST treasured things are my agate, rock and seed pod collections.

Before Shots of My Dichroic Glass Rings............

It's getting ready to rain here tonight! As such, this picture is my feeble attempt to try and take a picture despite all of the grey clouds outside. I figured if I added some "frou-frouness" with Picassa it might make it a little bit more easier on the eyes.

I have some glass cabochons I recently made and will be setting them on these ring bases from 14 gage fine silver wire. What you see is the before shot. (Personally I would wear one of these without the glass as well) If these showers pass us by quickly enough tomorrow you will get to see the aftershot before the weekend is over. I promise the after shot will be alot nicer!

1. Briefly describe what you make?

I'm an Artist who creates Traditional Art, Art Jewelry, and Crafts. My true passion is creating Oil Paintings and Watercolor Paintings. I also enjoy doing Printmaking, which includes Lithography, Intaglio, and Relief Printmaking "Woodcuts." The Victorian age has always fascinated me and I have adopted the lost Art of Embroidery. I'm currently working with embroidery floss and ribbon to create Fiber Art pieces.

2. What mediums do you enjoy working in most?

Oils, Watercolors, and Ink. The Impressionists have been a big influence on my painting. German Expressionism has influenced my Printmaking. I try to push myself to work in various styles using different techniques. Sometimes it feels really uncomfortable. I have to step away from the finished piece for awhile, then look it over again later. The end result usually surprises even me. Some of my best work has been derived like this.

3. How long have you been creating craft?

I've been creating Traditional Art and Crafts for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories involve creating.

4. How did you get started?

Mud puddles provided my first source of inspiration. I think that as soon as I could walk I was making mud paintings.

5. Where does the name of your shop come from?

I've always been inspired by the reflections of Autumn light streaming through windows. I like to play up Light in my paintings.

6. What would you most want people to know about your work?

It takes a long time to create! I usually add lots of intricate details to my work. I have so many different interests that I never run out of ideas or inspiration.

7. What words of advice do you have for other artists?

Do what you love.

Antiquity Ring

This past Sunday I created this ring. I designed this ring for myself. I waited patiently for my kiln to cool so that I could try it on. To my dismay, I created it a size smaller than what I normally wear. So what brings me sadness will hopefully bring someone else lots of joy.

I was able to photograph it today after work. By the time I arrived home from work there was just enough sun left.

This ring was created with Art Clay Silver. Art Silver Clay is a combination of fine silver (.999 silver), organic binders and water. After firing it in my kiln, the organic binders dissipate and what is left is 99.9% fine silver.

I also created the dichroic glass that serves as the focal point of this ring. A layer of dichroic glass was placed on a base of green glass.

This ring is a hair shy of 3/4" in length. It is a solid ring and perfect for someone who likes to wear a bold ring.

It is a size 6.

Chrome Yellow Ring.....a Fun and Funky Surprise from the Kiln

Today's lesson is the wonder of glass....just when you think you know what something may come out like you get a little surprise.

At first I was surprised by how bright and vivid this yellow is, but the dichroic glass pops when combined with the sterling silver ring base I created. I have found that at shows people enjoy looking at my rings and have had much success with them.

Now I have a fun and funky ring to add to my repertoire! Do you dare?

Nine Months Later.....

What can I say, by day I work as a paralegal....I write pleadings. How could I capture an audience and blog. So for nine months I stayed away.

Looking back at my last post, nine months I feel like I have come a long way with picture taking! I didn't want to get Adobe Photoshop because I had tried the download and at the time I couldn't figure out how to work the program. I downloaded the free photo software program Gimp...still no luck. Next came Picassa....ahhhh, alas it was sinking in. Now I have reverted to a combination of the two. I know where in my back yard to set up my photo booth and understand the capabilities of my camera. Nine months later here are my latest pics:

Photographing on white has been my biggest challenge, but with a ton of hours of practice its starting to sink in. Not all shots are 100% perfect (see the Viva Glam earrings, but it works - eventually I will retake them again to see if I can do better).

I also see the change in my designs. I promise not to stay away for another nine months. I am going to figure out away to incorporate this blogging thing into my life. Flickr has me spoiled...one paragraph and I am done. But it's time to join the craze!

The news tonight gave a little recap of stores like CompUSA that were offering free pumpkin pie for those that made it to the store by 12:00p.m. for their early holiday shopping. As we already had our fill of pumpkin pie hubby and I just sat back and chuckled....been there, done that and it was not fun!

Having been on Etsy for 5 months already I have seen so many talented artisans and I figured that I would start a little segment of my own. I can't promise pumpkin pie, but I can promise that you won't have to circle the parking lot for 2 hours and wait in line for another 3. Vintage Remix

A dear friend of mine Mama Shartey who runs this wonderful shop on Ebay full of vintage goodies such as linens, silverware, buttons, etc. sent me a gorgeous array of beads from vintage jewelry pieces that she had.

Over the weekend I went to my local bead store and had these beautiful creme beads in mind and was looking for something to remix these with when I saw these beautiful taupe swarovski pearls and czech firepolished beads. I knew right away that I could come up with something beautiful for the beads that Mama Shartey had sent me.

I came home today and after a wonderful dinner felt inspired to create. What resulted were these earrings.

Now the problem I am having is deciding whether to keep them or list them. If I list them, do I list them on Etsy or on Ebay. Decisions, decisions.... :)

A Blog in Progress

After a long day at work I went to my parent's house for dinner. Unfortunately, hubby couldn't join me as he was helping his brother paint a house. His brother is going to Vegas to get married on Thursday so he is helping him after work to complete a job he started.

My mom cooked the most delicious dinner. I know all kids love their mom's cooking, but my mom truly is an amazing cook - growing up I remember that whether it was a family gathering or a church get together everyone would come over to her to find out what she made. That tradition still continues today. I think she may have missed her calling as a chef!

After dinner I came home to a lonely house as hubby still had not returned. I am not the most "techy" of persons so I am trying each day to learn a little bit more about how to develop this blog page of mine. Luckily, I have a group of friends I have met on Etsy who are helping me learn something new daily. It's amazing how supportive everyone is with one another when the reality is that not many of us have met face to face. However, the Sellers on Etsy are wonderful and are always willing to help one another. With all of this help I am hoping to create a blog page that you will all want to visit often :)

I also found out wonderful news from one of my friends on Ebay. She has a wonderful line of mineral cosmetics, lip balms, fragrance oils, and lip balms and has been on Ebay for quite some time. Well, she has opened up her own shop on Etsy today: http://mineralmagic.etsy.com/

My Parent's 34 Year Anniversary...

Yesterday was my parent's 34 year Anniversary so I have been working all day on completing a necklace and earring set for my mom. In a few minutes I have to run to the Stores and grab a gift certificate for them. I had the extra day of shopping left as they went to New York City. They went to Manhattan for some shopping and then headed over to City Island for dinner.

In a day and age where divorce seems to be the norm (yes, I do know first hand) I am happy that my parents are still happily married. I love them both and wish them many more years.
My hubby and I have been together for 6 years, married for two and I hope to one day be able to celebrate our 34th. After a few frogs and one toad, I finally met the man of my dreams and my best friend.

My first blog!!! Hello World!!!

Hello World-

This will be a short blog since it's pretty late and I have to get up early in the morning and go to work. This is my first blog on blogger...I have blogged on other sites before and figured I would give blogger a try since it seems that so many of my fellow Etsy sellers use Blogger.

My shop has been open for a week and I have been adding my jewelry creations on a daily basis.
Please bare with me as I try to figure out if anyone will respond to this blog or if this is just a collection of my late night thoughts...it feels at times as though blogs have replaced diaries! Over the next few days I will be learning the ropes on blogger & hope to meet & greet with other bloggers.
